RHODIUM

Rhodium is a very rare and corrosion resistant metal. It is the most valuable precious metal. Due to the high value of rhodium, it is only used as a plating when making jewellery. Rhodium plating creates a white, reflective surface that has increased durability and corrosion resistance.

Rhodium Plating

Plating jewellery is a process that involves covering a piece of jewellery with a thin layer of another metal - rhodium in this case. Rhodium plating is usually used for white gold to dampen yellow tones, but we also like to use it on our silver jewellery to protect it from tarnishing.

We also like to use rhodium plating in diamond set jewellery, specifically behind the diamonds as this can make them appear even brighter!

It is important to remember that this is only a surface covering and is therefore susceptible to wear and tear over time. Rhodium plating on white gold should be replaced every 12-18 months, and silver much less frequently.
